Doves Nest Cave Treasure Trove - Sanctuary

Character: This treasure trove is just beneath a dramatic cave which can only be reached by a scramble (not described).  This is one of the best scrambles in the Lakes and is well worth doing with a suitably experienced party.  The first bit of the scramble to the terrace above the gully is however, quite easy and makes a fun outing.

Approach: Parking for a modest sum is available by driving up the small road up to Thornythwaite Farm fro a short distance. Take the path up to Combe Gill. This is aboggy hollow which you'll need to circumvent on either side. Doves Nest Crag lies at the head of the valley on the left hand side.  Ascend to the bottom of the crag at its right hand side.

Location: NY 25287 11603
The box is to be found at the bottom of the scramble into the cave. From the split rocks on the right-hand side of the crag, go to the left of the pinnacle at the bottom of the crag until you reach a little gully leading up to the cave. Alternatively you can squeeze through the dramatic slot and descend the gull on the far side.  The treasure trove is located to the right of the gully (looking up) at the bottom, hidden in a crack in the rocks.
